DIRECTORS

  Stephen Martin, Head Director

Stephen Martin is a 1977 graduate of Southern Nazarene University.  He did graduate work at the University of Oklahoma in conducting.  From 1975-1988, he worked as a director of church music.  This profession led him to Florida where he spent two years as a middle school band director while working with church music.  His family includes his wife Cathey along with three grown kids.  William, a loan officer with Citizens Bank of Oklahoma in Ada, Ok, Tim, a captain in the US Army, and Stephanie, who lives and works in Abilene, Tx. As the Ropes Eagle Band director, Mr. Martin is a member of ATSSB, TMEA, TMAA, TBA, and OMAA.  Mr. Martin's bands have earned numerous division 1 ratings through his years as a band director, and in 1994 his Frederick, Ok symphonic band was named the small school honor band for the state of Oklahoma.  His current band was a Area A marching finalist, and performed at the UIL state wind festival at the University of Texas at Austin.   Aside from teaching band, his hobbies include camping and hiking and keeping up with his three grandsons and three granddaughters.

Jay Sedberry, Asst. Director

Jay Sedberry is in his second year at Ropes ISD.  He graduated from Texas Tech University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Music.  While at Texas Tech, he marched with the award winning Goin' Band from Raiderland for five years.  As a member of the Goin' Band, he served as a drill instructor, Delta Upsilon class president of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of  Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Service Fraternity for college bands.  His wife, Coleen, teaches at Parkway Elementary in Lubbock ISD.  Outside of teaching school, he enjoys a variety of activities including playing tennis, basketball, skiing (water and snow), traveling, along with many other activities.
